Mechanism sketches for shaft-driven propulsors. A piston engine converts reciprocating motion to rotation, a turbine extracts shaft work from flowing gas, and an electric motor produces torque electromagnetically. Each can turn a propeller. Timing and relative speeds are illustrative; the piston sketch is not a complete combustion cycle.
