DriverHelical gears are spur gears with the teeth twisted into a helix. Each tooth enters the mesh at one end of the face and rolls across, instead of slapping in along its whole length, so the drive is smoother and quieter, and more teeth share the load. On parallel shafts the two gears need equal helix angles of opposite hand. The twist also makes the tooth force push along the shaft.
