A flat patch of an internal surface, enlarged to isolate its force balance. Higher pressure on the left produces a larger rightward force than the opposing pressure on the right. As the pressure difference relaxes, the net pressure force decreases. Gas also experiences forces from the solid and changes momentum. Arrow lengths and the repeating pressure pulse are qualitative; they are not loads for a real device.
