Wavefront geometry from an ideal moving point source. The rings show where disturbances emitted earlier have reached. Above Mach 1 their envelope lies behind the moving source. This explains why a supersonic projectile can produce a separate crack after leaving the muzzle. It is not a projectile-flow simulation; real shock angles and amplitudes depend on the body and flow.
